Update 9/10

The VA has approved Bob’s military status, and I are now waiting for the cemetery to complete its approval for the burial. As soon as we have a confirmed date, I’ll send out another update so everyone has the details in time to plan.

Update 9/4

The past few weeks have been a continued series of paperwork, but I owe everyone an update. I have received Bob’s military records (dd214) and have been working with the MEs office and VA to have his remains put to rest at Riverside. Im still waiting on final approvals however this appears to be moving forward and is just waiting on paperwork to come through. My time has been split between work, tracking down and communication with extended family, coordinating the most urgent stuff for Bob, and sorting out the legal system (and complexities because of Jeffs passing earlier this year). Im still trying to pull together a memorial in September but Its looking like it will be late September as I hadn’t expected to be dealing with the bureaucracy this still. Ill still need to reach out to several of the numbers that Bob had been in contact with this past year, but I have been prioritizing family and those frequent calls. I hope to have a compiled list next week and start working through it and start working on getting a venue in Van Nuys area selected. Again don’t hesitate to reach out, Im still very much committed to doing a memorial its just been a lot of moving pieces along with the an already busy life.

Bob’s Passing (8/14)

Robert Allen “Bob” Cupples, 73, passed away on July 16, 2025, in Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California, from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease. He was the last surviving of the three Cupples brothers, following the passing of Richard in 2010 and Jeff in January 2025.

Born on August 5, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, to Bernard and Shirley Cupples, Bob dedicated his life to service and community. He served honorably in the United States Coast Guard between 1970-1974 decorated with a National Defense Service Medal, where his commitment and camaraderie earned the respect of those alongside him.

Bob was also proud of his more than 25 years of sobriety, a testament to his strength, perseverance, and dedication to living life with clarity and purpose. He was a steady source of encouragement to others seeking the same path.

He is survived by his nephew, Shawn Cupples, son of his late brother Richard, along with an extended network of family and friends who will miss his warmth, humor, and steadfast spirit.

A celebration of life will be held in mid to late September 2025, with details to be announced. Family, friends, and all whose lives Bob touched are invited to attend and share their memories.

In honoring Bob’s life, we remember a man who lived with quiet integrity, a spirit of service, and a deep commitment to both his own personal growth and the well-being of those around him.

Bobs cell phone number is reactivated or you can reach out to cupples@gmail.com 503 307 3588 (though I work days so leave a message or text) for questions, comments, or to be kept up to date on services. This page will be kept updated as more information becomes available.
